Medical consultation from residence

03-Nov-2025 (In Civil Law)
I am a retired Gynaecologist residing in Chhattisgarh. I would like to open a consultation room in a corner room of my standalone bungalow. Can you inform me on the legal requirements, if any, in starting the consultation room. I intend to just examine the patient and go through the reports and offer advice. No procedures will be done in the Consultation room. There will be no staff other than me

You may open a consultation room in your residence after informing the local Municipal Authority and ensuring zoning compliance. No separate registration is required under the Clinical Establishments Act if only consultation and examination are done without staff or procedures. However, display your registration as a medical practitioner and maintain basic hygiene and record-keeping standards.

Hello! Greetings from our end! I am glad you wish to start consultation at your residence. There is no issue at all, however, you must register your name and address for consultation purpose so that in future there should not be issues afterwards. For registration all you have to do is carry your medical license and specialist registration visit to nagar nigam office and apply for permit. Once permit granted you are good to go with your consultation. for further queries feel free to get in touch. regards Adv. Prachi Janghel

You may run a consultation room in one room of your bungalow without any licence because: Only consultation and advice will be given No procedure, injection, dressing, or ultrasound will be done No staff will be employed You only need to ensure the following: Your medical registration is valid Proper prescription and patient records are maintained A name board with your qualifications is displayed Do not keep an ultrasound machine, because PC-PNDT registration will become mandatory. In this type of setup, Clinical Establishment registration is normally not required.
