Issue of OBC caste certificate

23-Sep-2025 (In Civil Law)
Hello Sir/Ma’am, I was born, educated, and domiciled in Maharashtra. My father is originally from Madhya Pradesh but settled in Maharashtra long ago. Our caste is listed under OBC in both states. My application for an OBC certificate in Maharashtra was rejected as I couldn’t provide residence proof before 1967. Can I instead apply in Madhya Pradesh for an OBC certificate, and will it be issued in my case? Kindly advise.

A person belonging to an OBC community recognized in MP but residing in Maharashtra cannot claim the MP OBC certificate, unless they can prove permanent domicile / ancestral link in MP. If the family has been living in Maharashtra for many years, the ordinary residence (as per OBC certificate rules) is Maharashtra, not Madhya Pradesh. The MP authority can refuse to issue an OBC certificate if the family is not resident in MP, even if their ancestral roots are in MP.
