Is it legal to do a voice recording without consent of the said person

with the intentions of economic harms or with the intentions to create some kind of pressure on someone in order to make him/her to follow any kind of rule which he/she doesn't wants to follow, do the voice recording by any means in private property without the consent of the property owner is legal

. Hon’ble Supreme Court in S. Pratap Singh vs. State of Punjab, AIR 1964 SC 72 held that the tape recorded version of a conversation was admissible in evidence to corroborate the evidence of witness who had stated that such a conversation had taken place.

Voice recording without consent is an interference with the privacy of the person therefore is totally illegal unless done with the authority of law under legal investigation by a competent officer. In fact it may be treated as tool for extortion (U/S 383 of the IPC) in case anyone complains that his voice has been recorded for unlawful gain by some one.
