Delay in Aadhaar Address Update: Seeking Legal Advice for Free Online.

08-Oct-2024 (In Civil Law)
I applied for an address change in my Aadhaar, and the processing time was supposed to be 1 month, but it has not been updated yet. After waiting for a month, I called Aadhaar customer support and lodged a complaint. I was told the resolution would take 1 month, but that time has also passed, and I haven't received any update. Since I have already waited for the processing and complaint resolution timeframes, what legal steps can I take to expedite my Aadhaar address update?

If you have already taken all possible steps and are still facing delays with no resolution from UIDAI, you may consider the following legal actions: 1. Send a Legal Notice: You can send a formal legal notice to UIDAI, stating your concern about the unreasonable delay and requesting immediate action. This step can sometimes prompt a quicker response. 2. File a Complaint with the Consumer Forum: Since Aadhaar services are essential for availing various government and private services, delays can lead to inconvenience. You can file a complaint with the Consumer Forum for deficiency in services by UIDAI. Attach all the documents related to your grievance, such as application slips, complaint records, and any responses received. 3. Approach the Central Information Commission (CIC): If you believe there is a lack of transparency in the process or if you’re not getting proper updates, you may file a Right to Information (RTI) request for your Aadhaar update status. If there is no satisfactory response, you can escalate this to the CIC. 4. File a Writ Petition in High Court: As Aadhaar is linked to essential services, any unreasonable delay could potentially affect your rights. You can file a writ petition in your state's High Court under Article 226 of the Indian Constitution for a direction to UIDAI to expedite your address update request.
