Correction of Parents’ Names in CBSE Marksheet After 3 Years

22-Jul-2025 (In Civil Law)
I passed CBSE Class 10 in 2020 and Class 12 in 2022. Both marksheets have minor errors in my parents’ names (surname mismatch) compared to their official IDs, which I noticed recently while applying for a passport and government exam. Can CBSE still correct this after 3 years if I provide proper documents and an affidavit? What documents are required? If not, can I proceed with passport and exam using an affidavit and IDs, or should I file a court declaration? Please advise.

You must err on the side of caution and do everything necessary to align your documents. As top companies do a thorough background check. Any discrepancy shall lead to a red flag. Start with affidavit and requests. See how it goes from there. As long as you have made efforts to correct it, it is a valid answer for any future employment or academic issues.

You can still get this fixed. CBSE allows correction of parents’ names up to 5 years after results, so your 2020 (Class 10) and 2022 (Class 12) certificates are still eligible. You’ll need to apply to the CBSE regional office with: - Parents’ ID proofs showing correct names - An affidavit before a magistrate - Copies of your marksheets/certificates - CBSE correction fee If CBSE doesn’t fix it or you miss the deadline, you can still use an affidavit + IDs for passport/exams, or get a court declaration, which CBSE and govt offices will accept.
