Change of date of birth old to new

19-Jun-2025 (In Civil Law)
My date of birth is currently less than the eligibility for UPSC exam 2026, which I have to change so that I can appear for UPSC exam next year, I have passed out 10th in 2021. All my documents have date 2008 which I want to change to 2005. What will be the way so that I can get my DOB changed in 3-4 months and there is no problem in UPSC verification.

Changing the date of birth in official documents is a serious legal matter. It can only be done if there is a genuine error supported by valid documentary evidence (birth certificate from municipal records). Courts and authorities are strict in such cases, and any false declaration or manipulation may lead to disqualification and criminal charges under IPC and UPSC rules. If you genuinely believe your DOB is incorrect, file a suit in court and seek an order for correction based on strong evidence. Mere intent to meet eligibility criteria is not a vali reason

1. Date of Birth Change after 10th Certificate Issuance Since your 10th-grade certificate (passed in 2021) already contains your DOB, and that document is considered the primary proof of age for most government exams (including UPSC), it is extremely difficult—often legally not permissible—to change DOB in school records after issuance of the 10th certificate. 2. Changing DOB in Educational Documents CBSE and most state boards do not allow DOB changes after two years of issuance of the 10th certificate. Since you passed in 2021, the last eligible window likely closed in 2023. 3. Affidavit or Gazette Notification is Not Sufficient Alone Even if you create an affidavit or get a gazette notification published with the new DOB, UPSC will only consider the DOB mentioned in your matriculation certificate. So a change via affidavit alone will not serve the purpose for UPSC eligibility. 4. Legal Route (High Court Petition) In rare and justified cases, a person may approach the High Court under Article 226 of the Constitution for a writ petition seeking change of DOB in educational records. However: You must provide strong and original evidence (e.g., hospital birth record, Aadhaar mismatch, municipal birth certificate). The court will allow the change only if it is convinced that a genuine clerical or factual error occurred and not for the purpose of exam eligibility.
