Can we Change our Lawyer in civil suit?

16-Apr-2025 (In Civil Law)
Hi, My lawyer is otherwise competent but he got serious anger issues. People warned me about the same before taking him as my lawyer. But since he is my old friend I ignored people's warning. I hired him thinking these issues won't be between us. His behaviour as a lawyer is disturbing me a lot, I told him about the same but things are not improving so, I am thinking of changing my lawyer. Is it possible? It's a civil suit. How easy is it? Will it affect my case? Please advise. Thank you

Hello Sir. A litigant is always free to change his counsel at any stage of a case, if he is not satisfied with the services of his counsel. There's no legal bar on engagement of a new lawyer . There's also no need to take permission from the court or anyone if you want to change your Counsel.

It is always prerogative of client to have advocate of his choice. You can change it whenever you want advocates rely on paper so it will not hamper your case if he has any confidential information regarding case. As a friend, he must share with you.

You can change your lawyer any time in between the civil suit. Thats your right and you can give any excuse to your lawyer friend. That you really don't want to spoil your relationship with them. Or you can add one new non interested temporary party to your suit and say that the new party wants to be present by 'lawyer friend' and can say that you guys don't want to be show to the opposite party that you guys have same lawyer, after that your new party can withdraw his interest to the suit. In the meantime you can change your lawyer.
