Can I mention advocate with my name while working in MNC

Hi, I did LLB and got enrolled in one state Bar council also last year . I am working with one MNC . Can I mention advocate with my name or signature. Please suggest

Rule 49, BCI Rules: If an advocate takes up full-time service, he/she must suspend their practice by informing the State Bar Council. That means you cannot simultaneously claim to be “practicing as an advocate” while holding an MNC job. If your MNC job is non-legal (IT, finance, HR, etc.), you should not use “Advocate” with your name/signature. Otherwise, it may be treated as misconduct.

You are enrolled with the State Bar Council, so technically you are an “Advocate” under the Advocates Act. However, since you are working in an MNC and not in active practice, you cannot use the prefix “Advocate” in professional or official capacity while signing for your company. The Bar Council rules restrict practicing advocates from taking up full-time salaried employment, except in legal departments. If you continue in a corporate role, you should avoid using “Advocate” with your signature, otherwise it may attract disciplinary issues. You can retain your enrolment but should either shift fully into practice or take exemption/suspension of license if you wish to continue as a salaried employee.

Normally if you are working with an MNC, then it must be clearly written that you are working for that particular MNC and in no other role. So it is implied that you cannot use your advocate designation. However, might be required to read your company’s policies and terms and conditions for the same.
