Bank changed my salary account into savings account without any notice

23-May-2023 (In Banking / Finance Law)
I had a salaried account with Deutsche Bank Bangalore. After I left my job this has been converted to a savings account and they have deducted money from my account claiming some minimum balance rule. I have not been intimated of this while the bank claims they have sent a notice to my permanent and temporary addresses. I did not receive any mail in this regard and none of my family members have actually collected any such letter from the bank. According to the bank the recipient is Mr. Kumar and I don't have any one by that name in my family. Glad to seek opinion from you in this regard.

Salaried accounts are referred to as “payroll savings account,” which offers certain benefits including the ability to maintain “Zero balance,” in the account. The facility is provided to employees as long as they are receiving salary credits in their accounts. Banks generally inform the company and the employee before the salary account is converted to a regular account. This is merely an intimation that the Bank has converted the salary account into a regular savings account, and also to inform that you can choose to either close or continue the account as a regular savings account. Intimation generally would be sent to the last known address, and in your case, if you have changed your residence without informing the Bank, there is nothing much you can do about it.

However, if you have intimated the bank of your change of residence, or if the Bank has not sent the intimation to the last known address, you can raise a grievance with the Banking Ombudsman, or you could bring an action in the Consumer Forum for deficiency in service of Deutsche Bank.

Hi
If you seriously feel that the bank are lying you can seek consumer forum for redressal of your grievance. But remember to seek legal support though a lawyer you may have to pay which may cost more than the value you have lost. But if you want to fight it out by yourself you can do so going thro internet the format of compliant and filing the case yourself. In the case you can state the facts and u must prove no such person has received as claimed by the bank.
