Is it legal to run a hookup website in India

22-Aug-2023 (In Startup Law)
I want to run a hookup site where people can find their sexual partners and build a community with the same interest. The website will have a free and paid version. Is this legal in India. If so what are laws I have to be following to make this happen?

In principle, absolutely! Some of laws that you'll have to comply with are the Indian Contract Act and Information Technology Act (and its rules governing data protection/privacy). However, how you structure your terms of service will play a more vital role.

It must be remembered that while your idea and business proposition won't particularly face any direct legal limitations, you might want to address and invest more of your time focussing on questions of morality (very simply because of the society that we live in) than on the law.

You could make this happen but there are a lot of factors that you would have to consider before putting it through. To begin with, this cannot be open to the general public and need entry by membership in order to ensure no one below 21 years are allowed to make a profile on your platform. Along with that, you need to consider several more factors such as no obscenity should be seen eighter in visual or text format on the site. You can contact us to get a legal opinion and to draw parameters in which the site has to look and take it forward from there.
