Wife is harrassing husband for not to sell rented room

16-Apr-2025 (In Property Law)
I am Hindu and 62 years old man. I am a tenant of a room of Goodwill property, and I want to sell the room based on goodwill transfer, but my wife is not allowing me, and she is 55 years old. She shouted at me and harassed me. How do I go ahead? Please give me legal advice.

If you are the lawful tenant of the room and the tenancy permits goodwill transfer, you may proceed with the transfer subject to the landlord’s/NOC conditions, if applicable. Your wife cannot legally obstruct the transaction unless she has any ownership or tenancy rights. However, since there are allegations of harassment, you can consider filing a complaint with the police under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, which protects senior citizens from abuse. You may also consult a local lawyer to draft a proper notice for goodwill transfer and protect your legal interests.
