Uttar Pradesh agriculture property for married daughter
11-Feb-2025 (In Property Law)
In Uttar Pradesh, a married daughter enjoys the same legal rights as a son to inherit her father's property whether it's ancestral, self-acquired, or agricultural under the Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005. This amendment granted daughters equal coparcenary rights, meaning they are entitled to an equal share in the family property, regardless of their marital status. Importantly, it also removed earlier restrictions on inheriting agricultural land. So, if a father dies intestate (without a will), a married daughter can lawfully claim her share of the property, just like a son.
