Transfer of joint property with municipal tax

27-Oct-2023 (In Property Law)
Inherited joint property with 7 families. The property is in the name of Grand father who is no more but still property tax is in his name. Each family has been earmarked their share through a simple affidavit. I would like to separate my self. Whether I can split to have separate tax receipt of my share in municipality in Mumbai in my name. What is the procedure.. Thanking you, Sir.

This is my response to you:
1. You will have to apply for partition before the court;
2. You will have to file a suit for partition;
3. Once it is legally separated then only you can claim a separate tax receipt;
4. Consult a local lawyer and take steps.

This depends on whether the property is divisible. If it is a separate flat in a building. i believe the same is possible. Do you have separate electricity bills? Approach the Assessment and Collection Department at the local BMC Ward office.
