Seeking Legal Guidance: Property Rights Being Ignored by Family

22-Apr-2025 (In Property Law)
I am a single woman, currently unemployed, and facing emotional and financial distress due to unfair treatment by my mother and younger brother. My father passed away in October 2019. Since then, I’ve taken full responsibility in many ways — when I was employed, I paid all household bills and supported my mother without hesitation. My brother was jobless for nearly two years. I helped him get a job recently, but he now treats me with arrogance and disrespect.

I understand your situation. Since your father’s death, you have contributed significantly to the household. You have rights in your father’s property as a legal heir under the Hindu Succession Act, 1956. You can claim your share through partition or legal notice. Emotional and financial harassment by family members can also be addressed through legal remedies, including domestic violence complaints if needed.
