Renting residential property to commercial use

I have an independent house in kolkata (Jadavpur). Now I am thinking to rent first floor of my house. Can I rent it for office use? Can I rent it for any other commercial purposes? Do I need to take any type of permission from Kolkata Municipality Corporation?

As per the details provided by you my suggestions would be that you don't need any permission from Kolkata Municipality Corporation for letting the premises for a commercial purpose if it is an independent house.
