How to tackle the Majority vs Minority in Cooperative Housing Society

06-May-2023 (In Property Law)
I own an apartment in Delhi in a co-operative society and I'm a member of that society. Recently "FAR" has been increased by the Authorities and the Society by majority has decided to make use of this increase by extending the total area of the all the flats. Mind you this is not redevelopment i.e demolishing the existing structure and erecting a new one in its place but rather extension of the existing structure. 5 members including me are contesting against this decision because: 1. We are satisfied with the existing structure and area of our apartments. 2. We are not in a financial position to contribute for it. So can the majority force the minority to toe its line and force it to undergo financial burden?

Hello,
For the query you posted, I would suggest the following:

Having dealt with similar matters, I am of the opinion that a lot of things come into consideration when any such extension takes place.
The society is am already occupied society, DDA' s role and many others.

For that reason, detailed discussion will be required.

Those who wish to increase the area of their apartment can do so individually at their cost and expense. If you do not wish to expand the area of your flat you certainly cannot be forced to do the same. However such permissions to increase the FAR contain various terms and conditions which must be followed.
