First of all you have not stated that whether this was your grandfather's self acquired property or ancestral property?
If it was his self acquired property, it will devolve equally on all her legal heirs, i.e., his first wife (if she was alive during his second marriage), his children from his first and second marriage. If the first wife of your grandfather was not alive during his second marriage then his second wife also shall have rights in the properties left behind by him.
Mere possession of property shall not confer any title on the occupants of the property. You may get a share in the property through your father's share only and not beyond that.
If your father is alive, you cannot claim any share in the grandfather's property which was inherited as his share.
In future for any question to be asked you may add some details of the matter so that you can get more proper opinion and suggestions to proceed legally.
