Commercial tax if I rent out my garage as retail shop

20-Oct-2023 (In Property Law)
I am willing to rent out the garage of my house for a retail shop. So do I have to pay commercial tax? If yes then for which area i.e. for the rented area or the whole house? In case I cease to rent out, then can the tax be reverted to domestic? The garage space is roughly less then 10% of the building

I wish to inform you that generally commercial activities like shops is not allowed in residential building. You may thus first have to seek permission for allowing shop in residential unit from Development Authority of your area. As regards property tax of your house it may be charged to tax as per use of premises done under law. Property tax is generally charged as per area allowed to be residential are and commercial area. Once you have full property as residential property then you may inform municipal authorities regarding change of unit.
