If you would like to get a power of attorney to the property in lieu of the money to be received from the party who has cheated the money, in my opinion this would not be a correct step to recover the money.
In fact you could have got a registered sale deed in your favor, however on the basis of the registered power of attorney in your favor you can sell this property to a third person and can take away the sale proceeds towards the adjustment of the money to be received by you from that person.
