Can a non-agriculture person buy Agriculture land in Karnataka

10-Aug-2023 (In Property Law)
I am in IT field in Bangalore, salary 20 Lakhs per annum. My father was an agriculturist back in 2000, but we sold all our agriculture properties for household needs (hence none of us hold Pani in our name). There is an agriculture land that I want to purchase now near my native Davangere, Karnataka. My questions are : 1. Is it possible for me to buy agri land in my name OR my father's name since we don't have Pani? 2. Can my father buy it in his name stating that he held Pani many years ago. And then GIFT DEED to me? Thanks.

Earlier the position of Law to buy an agricultural land by a non agricultural was to have the income limit of 2 Lakhs per annum. But, thanks to Amendment to Karnataka Land Reforms Act in 2015 now under section 79A, income limit has been increased to 25 Lakhs per annum. Hence you can buy the agricultural land in your own name.
