Can a co-operative housing society buy agricultural land , in UP ? Directly from the farmer, and then apply for land use conversion ? Is such a purchase legal ? Or is it only possible to buy land as a Coop Housing Society, after the land use has been changed ?
Co-operative housing society should buy land after the land use has been changed. The farmer can apply for land use change under sec 143, UPZALR. Buying agricultural land has certain limitations like ceiling, etc. So once the farmer gets the land converted to residential/commercial use than the society can purchase the land.
