Ancestral house maintained by me. can relatives ask their share ?

29-Nov-2023 (In Property Law)

The agriculture land and house of my ancestral has been maintained by my father for the past 50 to 60 years and recently two years back i have renovated the house at a cost of 20 lakhs borne by me registering the land in my name. Presently some relatives of great grand father's father says they are entitled for the property and are asking for their share what ever the loss incurred in the agriculture land and the tiled house damaged beyond repair. I would like to know the provision regarding the issue. It may be noted that the parties have never visited the place during the past 60 years

What is the basis that you call it as ancestral property?, do you have any original document proving the title of your ancestors?
Even if it is confirmed that it is ancestral property, how did you get it registered on your name?
Just because your father had been maintaining the property for some decades, denying share to other heirs or co-sharers is unlawful.
You should not have invested in the renovation of the property without consulting anyone.
You cannot deny the share to them however you may ask them to prove their rights through court of law and can challenge it appropriately on the basis of merits in your side including adverse possession of the property by your father for over four decades
Consult an advocate and discuss the issues at length and see if there is any possibility for a compromise situation.
