A power of attorney is a legal document authorizing an agent to act on behalf of the person who created the power of attorney. He is basically the legal representative of that person.

A general power of attorney gives greater authorizations to the agent. The agent may be able to make decisions pertaining to medical/ legal as well as financial and business decisions.

A special power of attorney limits what authority the agent has. The power is restricted by the person authorizing him to be his agent.
