Landlord not returning security deposit and ignoring calls

02-Oct-2023 (In Landlord/Tenant Law)
Hi, I vacated my rented house (shared with 3 other girls, through rent agreement) in August 2015. My owner did not credit back my deposit since he wanted to assess the painting charges etc. After much haggling and follow-up, he sent me most of the sum in April'2016 but deducted random charges without any bills or proofs. After that, he stopped responding to my calls and emails. Is there any hope to get unnecessary deduction back along with compensation? I am told there is no such rental laws or governing body in Karnataka for these kind of issues. Your opinion would be great help. Thanks!

Dear sir,

How much amount is pending? is it a huge amount then i would suggest you to send him a legal notice for recovery of the money which is pending. IN Case the amount is not a huge amount then i would not suggest you to take the legal route as it would charge you more then your amount.

You can send a legal notice to him stating all the details of your relationship (rental agreement, clauses, when you moved in, how he handled the issue, interaction regarding the deposit and deductions etc.) and seek refund of the deduction made without reason.
