Landlord has stopped water connection

04-Jul-2023 (In Landlord/Tenant Law)
My landlord has a joint ownership in a building with his brother. We give rent to one landlord but now the water connection is with the other landlord and they are asking for hefty sum of money for providing water and they also want us to pay them rent too. It is an undivided property in Kolkata. We are muslim. Can you please help me what to do for my water resumption? They are also not giving us the key of the main entrance which is locked at night. We work in an MNC and we need the key to enter our flat. Please help

You can file a case of mandatory injunction against the co-landlord who has stopped the water connection to your premises. also if you are paying to one of the landlord your rent then it's enough on your part of discharge of your obligation and the court will not penalize you. while the terms of the rent agreement will be of concern here but if you are getting the rent receipt from the landlord you are currently paying it would be fine. also in case of any dispute you are always free to deposit the rent with the rent controller after filing a case to adjudge the recipient of the rent in due course. hence the case prima facie appears to be in your favour on every count and therefore you can get all requisite relief from the court. lastly your religion is totally immaterial in respect of the relief that you are seeking.
