How to deal with unfair practices by landlord

Sir i am a student and live in room on rent . My landlord charge me 5300per months but on same room another boy who live before me charge 3500per months.and i have receipt of that what i do. feeling helpless because i dont want to leave that room. Because i stay here from 3year in another room
You can ask your landlord why is he doing such discrimination, if he does not provide you with a proper solution then you can file an application to the said rent control board having jurisdiction over your area.
