Your question is very vague. Are you working in a government set-up or a corporate set-up? Accordingly different law, rules, regulations apply for a different category of a workplace. Whether you are on probationary period or official appointed at a post, will also matter.

Irrespective of all that, it is obligatory for you to give one month notice to your employer before you vacate your post/employment.
