Can the company keep my original certificates

i m working for a pvt. company. and have signed an agreement of 1 year. they have kept all my original documents. i want to leave my job but they are saying to pay some amount if i leave before and will not give my original documents till the completion of 1 year. what can i do to get it back, do they have the right to keep my originals

Dear User, your employer does not have the authority to keep your original documents. The demand for payment of some amount shall be decided in terms of the agreement signed by you and if the agreement specifically provides for payment of such compensation then you shall be liable to pay such amount at the time of resignation.
