Are there any laws for women safety in office cab

02-Mar-2023 (In Labour & Service Law)

Are there any laws in place which require employer to have a security official present in the office cab if the last drop is a woman? My office cab starts at 7.30 pm and the last drop is a woman. But the cab does not have any emergency alert system or security official available to ensure the safety of women. Considering the recent events happening across the country, are there any rules available stating which we can demand the employer to have an emergency alert system and security official deployed in the cab?

The basic law governing working hours for women in India are Shops and Establishment Act of the respective states and the Factories Act. Certain states require to take permission for women to work till late, subject to conditions such as providing transport. Both these Acts have provisions with respect to working hours for employees. Till the employee reaches home, after doing the company’s work, it is the company’s responsibility to ensure her safety. If there is some safety and security issues she may bring them to the notice of the Management and request for taking care of them.
