SECTION 4 IPC - Indian Penal Code - Extension of Code to extra-territorial offences

As per new Indian Criminal law, IPC Section 4 has been replaced with BNS Section 1 with effect from July 1, 2024.
(Section is included as a subsection in BNS sans heading. In the illustration, "Uganda" has been replaced with "any place outside India.")

The provisions of this Code apply also to any offence committed by:
  1. any citizen of India in any place without and beyond India;
  2. any person on any ship or aircraft registered in India wherever it may be.

What is Section 4 of the IPC Act?

In Section 4 IPC, the Code is extended to include acts committed outside of India's territorial borders. Anyone on any aircraft or ship registered in India, wherever they may be. Anyone in any country outside of India who commits an offence against a computer resource in India.
