As per new Indian Criminal law, IPC Section 2 has been replaced with BNS Section 1 with effect from July 1, 2024.
(No change except "Code" is replaced with "Sanhita". Wherever the word “Code” is used in IPC, the word “Sanhita” is used in BNS; therefore, this fact will not be specifically mentioned in this table hereinafter.)

Please refer to BNS 1 for updated procedures & punishments.

Every person shall be liable to punishment under this Code and not otherwise for every act or omission contrary to the provisions thereof, of which he shall be guilty within India.
