Whoever commits the offence of bribery shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both;

Provided that bribery by treating shall be punished with fine only.



IPC 171E in Simple Words

If someone commits bribery, they can be punished with up to one year of imprisonment, a fine, or both, except for bribery by treating, which is punishable by a fine only.
