Legal Protections (if you are a wife) Domestic Violence Act, 2005 - You can file a complaint under this act for mental, emotional, or financial abuse. You can seek protection orders, residence rights, and financial maintenance. Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 - If he or his family is demanding money, it can be treated as dowry harassment. Section 498A IPC - You can file a criminal case for cruelty by husband or his relatives. 2. File a Complaint You can go to the nearest women's police station or normal police station and file an FIR. You can also contact the Women's Helpline 181 or National Commission for Women (NCW) online for help.

In order to end your suffering, you may seek help of the Police. If the harassment and torture continues then it would be better if you lodge an FIR against them. Feel free to contact me for seeking any legal advice/assistance as regards the same.

Your situation amounts to clear and continuing acts of domestic violence and matrimonial cruelty under Indian law. The conduct of your husband and his mother demanding money, taunting you for dowry, forcibly taking your salary, controlling your financial independence, physical assault (twisting your finger), verbal abuse, and repeated humiliation constitutes cruelty and economic abuse under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act well as an offence under the Dowry Prohibition Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. If the situation is unsafe, you should also consider moving to a safe location or a shelter home and documenting all injuries and abuses through medical records, messages, or photos these will serve as crucial evidence.

You can file a complaint under Section 498A IPC and Domestic Violence Act for cruelty, assault, and monetary harassment. Also seek divorce under Section 13(1)(ia) HMA and claim maintenance, protection, and residence rights.
