Request for Legal Advice Regarding Breach of Promise to Marry

05-Jun-2025 (In Divorce Law)
I am reaching out to seek your professional legal advice regarding a matter involving a breach of promise to marry, which has resulted in significant emotional distress, mental suffering, and social embarrassment for me and my family. I am a male who was in a committed relationship since 2023. Over the last two years, the opposite party and their family consistently gave verbal assurances about marriage. Recently, I came to know that they have arranged marriage elsewhere without informing me.

It is quite painful to hear all these. Since you were in a relationship with the girl and finally the marriage of the girl has been settled with any other person, obviously it will be disastrous for your mental condition. However, the law in this regard is very clear, you cannot sue any person for not marrying you. So, there is nothing on the part of the law that can help. I wish you all the best in your new life.

You can file a cheating case as the girl knowingly made false promises to marry you without any intention of doing so from the beginning, and used that promise to gain trust, money, property, or for physical relations, then it can attract criminal liability. Make sure you file the copy/receipts of all the expenses you made on her during relationship.
