Family stopping to do the job due to adultery

16-Nov-2025 (In Divorce Law)
I confessed my past adultery after marriage to my husband out of guilt, and since then my life has completely turned upside down. My husband and his family are now pressuring me to resign from my stable 11-year job in a top MNC and move to our native place to live with his parents, doing all the household work. They are threatening to file for divorce on the grounds of adultery if I refuse. I’m scared to leave because of my child—I don’t want to lose him. They constantly yell at me about my past

Dear Client, 1. Your husband cannot legally force you to resign your job, relocate, or live with his parents, and the pressure and humiliation you’re facing amount to mental cruelty under Indian law. Past adultery before marriage is not a valid ground for divorce, so their threats are legally weak unless they prove adultery after marriage. You have the right to seek protection under the Domestic Violence Act, approach the police if harassment continues, and seek relief through the Family Court. You cannot be forced to give up your job or your child—these are your independent legal rights. Consult an advocate to discuss your case in brief. 3. You may schedule an appointment regarding your case by phone or email at your convenience. Thanks & regards, Priyanka Advocate Coimbatore
