Dear, Mam/ sir, i need a consultation
19-Jun-2025 (In Divorce Law)
I filed for divorce because my husband was drinking, not taking care of me, and was demanding money from my parents. Due to his behavior, I left the house. Later, without informing me, he vacated the house and took all of my belongings. I approached the court, and during the first hearing, the judge stated that the matter is 'referred to mediation for conciliation.' The case has been adjourned for the filing of a counter on a specific date. What does this mean?
The judge referring the matter to mediation means the court wants both parties to attempt resolving the issues through discussion with the help of a mediator. This is a standard process in matrimonial cases to see if a mutual understanding or settlement is possible. It’s not binding—if mediation fails, the divorce case will continue in court.
The adjournment for filing of a counter means your husband has been given time to file his reply (counter) to your divorce petition. Once he submits it, the court will proceed with the next stages such as evidence and arguments.
