Keep the transaction ID, payment receipt, and other transaction details ready. Whether the payment can be reversed or refunded depends on the transaction status and applicable policy.

If you made an erroneous UPI transfer, immediately inform your bank branch manager with the transaction details and lodge a dispute through official banking channels. Under the Indian Contract Act, a person who receives money by mistake is legally obligated to return it under the doctrine of unjust enrichment. If the recipient refuses to return your money, you have the full legal right to send a formal Legal Notice and file a complaint for criminal breach of trust and misappropriation.
