Preliminary investigation by police before closing case

18-Nov-2025 (In Criminal Law)
When a complaint is submitted to police dept, during preliminary investigation stage - 1. is it mandatory for a police officer to collect evidence and preserve it before closing the case? 2.under what circumstances can the investigating officer send police notice in Instagram? Based on wat factors can he decide if a case is false or proceed to register FIR for full investigation? Say for example a theft is reported, is the investigating officer supposed to collect evidence mandatorily ?

Police must do a basic inquiry and collect initial evidence before closing any case. Notices through Instagram are used only if normal contact methods fail. If facts show a cognizable offence like theft, they must register an FIR and investigate further instead of closing the case as false without proper verification
