S.Gunasekar Answer This is a scam. Scammers often pretend to be police or officials to scare you into paying money. Do not respond, block the number, and do not pay anything. You are not in real trouble if you didn’t share personal info or send money.

This appears to be a scam. Fraudsters often misuse Locanto to trap users and extort money by threatening police action. Since you didn’t engage in any illegal conversation or transaction, there’s no criminal liability. Do not pay or share any details. Block the number, keep screenshots as proof, and consult us immediately for legal protection and to handle any further contact safely.

This appears to be a scam, commonly seen on platforms like Locanto. You only sent a “Hi” message, which is not an offence. A real police officer will not call and threaten you over the phone, they issue formal notices if there is a genuine complaint. The claim that a girl’s family filed a case and a Sub-Inspector is calling you is a known extortion tactic. Do not share personal info or send money. Block the number immediately. If they continue to harass you, file a complaint at your local police station or on cybercrime gov in. You’re not in legal trouble based on what you described. Stay calm and don’t engage further. — Adv. Venkatakrishnan, Apex Law Office LLP, Chennai.
