Fight - defamation, threat to defame in news and social media

12-Nov-2025 (In Criminal Law)
I am a young woman customer and there was argument with local gym owners. They agreed to a change in membership & fee but later changed their mind. Instead of telling about their change of mind, they insulted me with false accusations and threatened with police case, spreading my pics & video negatively to defame me online and in news. They found me alone, ganged up against me and provoked me. To which I raised my hand at one of them to slap but he blocked it. They defamed me 2 my family also.

Firstly, the humiliation, false allegations, and defamation caused to you by the gym authorities amount to an offence under Section 356(1) of the BNS, which deals with defamation. Such actions are punishable as they damage your social reputation and dignity. Secondly, if they have threatened or intimidated you in any manner, it constitutes criminal intimidation under Section 351 of the BNS, which is a serious punishable offence. Thirdly, if your photos or videos have been misused, edited, or circulated online to defame you, that falls under digital offences, punishable under Sections 66E and 67 of the IT Act. You may lodge a complaint at the nearest police station or the Cyber Crime Cell. Fourthly, keep all evidence safe — such as chats, photos, videos, or witness details. You may also approach the State Women’s Commission or the Human Rights Commission for additional support. If you face any problem, please contact me.
