Charged under section 279ipc should I plead guilty or fight

Hello I'm a woman of 32 living in kolkata. I was driving on a 4 point crossing going vertically and there was a flashing red light and 1 Sargent giving hand signals. I misunderstood the hand signal and proceeded towards the signal when a vip car came all of a sudden in front of me horizontally. We both braked in time and avoided any collision. No car was damaged and no body was injured. I panicked and fled the scene. However now I have been booked under section 279 ipc and I'm out on bail. My lawyer suggest I shud plead guilty.and I will only have to pay a fine. Is that the case? Pls help.
You could plead guilty and mention that it was a mistake on part by you and you did not understand the hand signals given by the police. You can get away with a fine.
