Do I hold the copyright of work I did if no contract was signed?

13-Apr-2023 (In Trademark & Copyright Law)

Hi, I joined a startup 2 months ago. I was offered co-foundership of the startup and stakes in the company. But I did not get to sign the contract as they kept delaying it. Now I suspect some fowl play and have reason to believe that they are going to let go off me unfairly. Can I refuse to give them the code I wrote for them since we did not sign an agreement yet? Do I have the rights to my code? They have been paying me the salary though.

Where you are appointed to work for the company and create code for the company then you will not have the rights over the code. In case there is no contract, you receiving the salary from the company is sufficient to prove that you are working on behalf of the company.
