Dear Client, 1.No, it is not legal to use rivers or any natural water bodies for cleaning business equipment. Under The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. Discharging or using river water in a way that causes pollution or contamination is prohibited without prior consent from the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB). 2. Such activity is considered “pollution of water” and can attract penalties, closure orders, and prosecution. 3. Consult an advocate to discuss your case in brief. 4. You may schedule an appointment regarding your case by phone or email at your convenience. Thanks & regards, Priyanka Advocate Coimbatore

As per Indian environmental and water resource laws, direct use of river water for industrial or commercial purposes—such as cleaning, processing, or manufacturing—is not permitted without prior approval from the respective authorities. The relevant regulations include: 1. The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 – Any discharge or use of river water for business activity requires consent from the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB). 2. The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 – Prohibits contamination or unauthorized use of natural water bodies that could affect water quality. 3. The Indian Easements Act, 1882 – Recognizes public rights over water bodies and restricts exclusive use by private entities. In short, using river water for cleaning equipment without due permission from the Water Resources Department or the SPCB may attract penalties or prosecution under environmental laws.
