As you are 18 years old, you are legally a major and entitled to update your Aadhaar details. Normally, while updating address in Aadhaar, the father’s name is not automatically removed. However, even if the father’s name is not mentioned on Aadhaar, it does not affect your legal status, career, education, or job opportunities. Aadhaar is primarily an identity and address proof under the Aadhaar Act, 2016. For most official purposes such as government jobs, private employment, bank accounts, passport, or higher education, your own name, date of birth, and Aadhaar number are important. Father’s name is generally relevant in educational certificates, PAN, passport, or other records, not necessarily in Aadhaar. However, to avoid future discrepancies, ensure that your name, date of birth, and other details match with your educational certificates, PAN, and other documents. If there is any major change (like surname change), it should be updated consistently in all documents. If you are planning to remove father’s name due to personal reasons, take proper advice and maintain supporting documents to avoid mismatch issues in future. There should be no major legal trouble solely due to removal of father’s name from Aadhaar, but consistency in documents is always advisable.
