Petty case ( fined by court for alcohol consumption)
06-May-2025 (In Civil Law)
I am from Bihar. In bihar alcohol is banned. But few days ago i caught by the police for consuming alcohol. And they detain me for 12 hours and after that i paid the fine in court and get released. So i wanna to ask this thing can affect government job during police verification.
If you were caught in Bihar for consuming alcohol—where it is banned under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act—and were detained by the police but later released after paying a fine without a formal criminal case being registered against you, it is unlikely to have a significant impact on your chances of getting a government job.
During police verification for government employment, authorities typically check for any pending criminal cases, FIRs, or convictions. If no First Information Report (FIR) was registered and no criminal charges were framed in court—meaning it was handled as a minor offense with a compounding fine—then it is not considered a criminal record. In such cases, your name does not appear in police databases as someone with a criminal background, which is usually the main concern during background checks.
However, if an FIR was registered and the offense was recorded in your name—even if it ended with a fine—then it may appear in police verification records. But even then, if the case was petty and has been disposed of (especially through compounding or fine payment), you can still apply for government jobs. You may be required to disclose this incident in job application forms where questions about previous legal trouble or convictions are asked.
