As per the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016, Aadhaar can be issued only to individuals who are residents of India. A “resident” means a person who has stayed in India for at least 182 days during the 12 months immediately before the date of application. In your wife’s case, since she is a Nepali citizen, she can apply for Aadhaar provided this residency condition is fulfilled and the necessary documents are produced. As you already have a marriage certificate issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, Nepal, she can apply through the Head of Family (HoF) route, where your Aadhaar number can be used to introduce her. Generally, the following documents are required: Proof of Identity (POI): Passport or any other valid ID (while Nepali citizens do not require a passport/visa to live in India under the India–Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship, UIDAI may still ask for an identity proof). Proof of Address (POA): Documents like rental agreement, electricity bill, bank statement, etc., that show residence in India. Proof of Relationship (POR): Your marriage certificate. Head of Family’s Aadhaar details: Your Aadhaar number. She may visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra in Maharashtra with the above documents, where the officials will verify and process her application. ⚠️ Please note that Aadhaar is issued on the basis of residency in India, not citizenship. If your wife has not completed the required 182 days of stay in India during the last 12 months, her application may not be accepted.
