In my school TC they have wrongly updated my caste.
18-Oct-2023 (In Civil Law)
-
No legal caste change: Caste is a hereditary identity under Indian law. Shifting from SC/OBC to General (or vice versa) is not legally allowed.
-
Correction allowed: If the caste shown in a Transfer Certificate (TC) or other documents is wrong due to a clerical or record error, you can apply for correction.
-
How to correct:
-
Submit a written application to the issuing authority (school/college).
-
Attach proof of correct caste (like a caste certificate issued by the competent authority).
-
If the authority denies correction, you can approach the District Education Officer (DEO) or even file a writ petition in the High Court.
