Correction of mothers name in child's birth certificate

20-Feb-2025 (In Civil Law)
I have been trying to request panchayat to update/correct my name in my daughters birth certificate. they have been denying the same saying in Gujarat it is not possible to update the full name (Maiden name with my father's name) for mother and it is mandatory to use my husbands name post marriage. I have given application saying its not compulsory but my request is verbally denied. Not sure how to correct birth certificate of my daughter.

You can always reach civil court with appropriate application for the warranted change in the name of mother, for which you will need proof to show that your application was sent to birth and death regn authority and they have not yet made the change, nor given any reason to deny the same in writing. if any formal written statements are available, we may place it on record to show clean hands but protest the same. The rules may not mandate to mention maiden name in child's birth certificate but it's not specifically denied or prohibited and that point might just give you enough room and advantage for the desired outcome. feel free to connect with your details and documents for further discussion and guidance.
