Questions Answered by Advocate Bishnupada Routray

Q: Gst bill fraud by hotel, whatsApp messages deleted

I seek your guidance regarding a hotel in Bhubaneswar where I had booked services for my wedding on 23 November 2025. The banquet manager asked me to transfer payments to personal accounts, assuring proper GST bills later. After full payment, he stopped responding, deleted chats, and blocked me. I received only one incorrect GST bill, with no invoices for rooms or decoration. I have all payment proofs and request advice on issuing a legal notice and further action.

Advocate Bishnupada Routray answered
Yes, legal notice can be sent to claim the amount. You shouldn't have paid for the personal account of the staff. You can contact me for further process. I need to know the whole story and thereafter only I will be able to advise you.

Q: FIR pending (no chargesheet) – effect on govt exams

I have an FIR registered in June 2024 under IPC sections 353, 294, 332, 323, 34 and MV Act sections 177, 185, 192 against my cousin and me. Till now, no chargesheet has been filed. I’m planning to appear for government examswill this cause any issue during selection or joining in state engineering or civil services?

Advocate Bishnupada Routray answered
It might create some issues. It's a pending case. In many recruitment exams, the advertisement says there must not be any pending criminal case against the applicant. Kindly check your recruitment exam advertisement/notification.

Q: Hidden ex parte divorce decree discovered in parallel case

I filed a divorce case on 30 November 2023 in Family Court, Bhubaneswar. Though the opposite party initially remained absent and was declared ex parte, he later got the order set aside. He never filed his written statement, skipped counselling, and yet secretly obtained an ex parte divorce decree in a parallel case on 26 June 2024 without my knowledge. Despite this, he continued participating in my case and disclosed it only on 15 April 2026.

Advocate Bishnupada Routray answered
Setting aside an ex-parte decree is a discretion of the court provided the opp. party satisfies the court with sufficient reasons. That's common. However kindly clarify some things. Parallel proceeding before which court?? Have you received any summons in that parallel proceeding??

Q: Court Marriage In Front Of Register Officer

After completion 30 day notice periods and notified for physical appearance for court marriage. Can we go for marriage infront of register officer

Advocate Bishnupada Routray answered
That's actually not a court marriage, it's a registered marriage, which is done before the concerned sub-registrar. After the notice period is over, you can proceed with marriage subject to some compliances which will be done by your advocate engaged.
