What to do when a false dowry case has been filed against you

It is a well known fact that dowry laws are more favourable towards women. Thus, to avoid abuse of such laws by your wife, you must take the following precautions:
 
There are two kinds of situation that may arise:

 i. When your wife threatens you to file a false dowry case, you must check the following:

• No dowry case can be filed, if your marriage has completed 7 years.
• Avoid any acts that could harm your wife and can be used as evidence against you.
• You must collect evidences against your wife, that she is threatening you with such false accusations.
• You must file for an anticipatory bail in the sessions court to avoid arrest.

 ii. When your wife has already filed a complaint against you:

• If she makes a false complaint, the police will not file an FIR immediately.
• The complaint is first forwarded to the women cell so that both the parties can reach a compromise.
• If you and your wife are unable to reach a settlement, you will be directed to go for mediation or conciliation in a district court.
• In case the above procedures fail and an FIR is filed against you, file for an anticipatory bail immediately.
• If you are willing to end your marriage, you can file for a divorce based on any grounds as per your personal laws.
